At first feted and later rejected by bourgeois society, Baal roams through forests and along motorways, greedy for schnapps, cigarettes, women and men: ‘You have to let out the beast, let him out into the sunlig...。民国初年，留洋医学生林星苒毕业归来，发现母亲惨死，为了查清真相报仇，她潜伏进嫌疑人首富方老爷家做家庭医生。谁知方老爷遇害，林星苒成了头号嫌疑人。好死不死，前来调查的是方老爷的养子江北辰，也是林星苒的旧情人。他认定两年前林星苒为了荣华富贵背叛自己，决定新仇旧账一起算。二人高手过招，斗智斗勇，展开激烈的猫鼠游戏，屡屡擦枪走火。在发现杀父凶手另有其人后，二人通力合作，旧情复燃，然而此时，林星苒却发现江北辰极有可能就是杀母凶手，二人身份瞬间逆转。。
